Kee Wah Bakery started as a neighborhood grocery store on Shanghai Street in Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong. Since their founding in 1938, Kee Wah has developed from a local family business to a global enterprise with various product lines, including wedding cakes, moon cakes, and other pastries. In recent years, Kee Wah has embarked on a rebranding journey to modernize its products and has also begun its digital transformation journey in 2022, aiming to deliver better shopping experiences to their customers. <\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

The Challenge<\/h2>\n

Before migration to AWS, surging traffic before holiday seasons had been a pain point to Kee Wah as it often caused their website to crash. It was difficult for the company to respond to unexpected traffic spikes as there needed to be a real-time monitoring mechanism to track and analyze the traffic data. Kee Wah needed a more agile, resilient and elastic IT infrastructure to cope with the traffic fluctuations.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

At the very beginning of the project, Nexltink helped Kee Wah to draw clear objectives for each phase of its migration journey. During the assessment phase, Nexltink studied the traffic volume of Kee Wah’s website and built a basic infrastructure on AWS based on their requirements with services such as Amazon VPC and Amazon Route 53 Deployment to establish DNS.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Disperse Traffic to Reduce Latency<\/h3>\n

To accommodate the traffic spikes, Amazon ELB can automatically scale the load balancer as traffic to the website changes over time. With Amazon CloudFront as their CDN (Content Delivery Network), which helps deliver dynamic and static content to users without latency. <\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Enhance Speed for Expansion<\/h3>\n

Amazon RDS and EFS File System are provisioned to improve the database read\/write speed, thereby improving the website performance. Amazon ElastiCache is also used to accelerate performance, reduce latency and provide more flexibility. And OpenSearch allows IT staff to search, organize and analyze large amounts of data quickly.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Implement Firewall to Strengthen Cybersecurity<\/h3>\n

Amazon WAF firewall helps Kee Wah to protect against common web exploits and bots that might affect the website\u2019s availability and compromise security. With a web access control list (ACL), resources are protected from malicious web requests.
\nAs cyber threats have become a new norm across all sectors and industries, security matters more than ever. To help Kee Wah safeguard their application and prepare for potential cyber risks, Nextlink hardened the company’s infrastructure based on the AWS Foundations Benchmark of the Center for Internet Security (CIS) focusing on Authentication, Logging, Monitoring, Network, Encryption, and Threat Detection.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n
